Hadrian's Wall Mighty Hike 2016 · 25 June 2016 ·
As a family we have been effected by cancer on far too many occasions. We are glad to say that most have been success stories but only last year we weren't so lucky when we sadly lost a family member.
Here's what we have to say;
Tracy: "10 years ago my mum Mary had cancer, followed by my friends mum Sylvia, then me, then my friends mum Jean , then my friend Donna and then unfortunately one is going through it for the 2nd time, but it's looking good but all of it heartbreaking. So cancer has been very prominent in our lives for way too long. I've been on both sides and neither side is better than the other as it's the hardest thing to tell your family you're ill and watch the pain they go through. I know how important the support of Macmillan is to the patient and the family and no words can justify how important these people are and that's why I've signed up, please support us if you can"
Claire: "This is something completely out of my comfort zone... I have never done anything like this before but when I had the opportunity to stand (or should I say hike?!) with some of my family for such a great cause I knew I had to do it. I am so proud to be doing this with my incredible Aunty Tracy, she took on the big C and kicked it's ass with her lipstick intact! She is a true inspiration and fighter! Sadly cancer will continue to effect so many more but the work Macmillan do can be a huge support to people when they are in their darkest moments. So in support of my incredible Aunty and in memory of lost loved ones let's support this great charity in continuing in it's amazing work!"
Sam: " It's a frightening time when a family member gets cancer and the worst feeling when someone says they have it but Macmillan are there to support the family's through it too. I've signed up as moral support for my mum Tracy, uncle Ken and cousins Claire and Philip who are doing this challenge too , and to raise money to help those who need support"
Philip:"Macmillan nurses have been there for a number of my family members through some difficult times, now an opportunity has arisen for me to try and pay some of that kindness back. Running isn't one of my strong suits, so the GNR is out of my reach, this is why I've chosen to take part in the 'Marathon Hike' in aid of Macmillan. All donations will be greatly appreciated, wether it be a little or a lot, it all adds up and ensures the nurses can continue to be there to support many more families in the future. It's in numbers that we can really make a difference, walk with us as we work to tip the scales in our favour. Thank you"
Ken: "Don't drink, this is what happens lol- on a serious note please help my family and I raise money to help Macmillan support those who need it"
