Story
Social interaction is crucial to our physical and mental health, and during these times, having the chance to connect with others is even more important. United Rehabilitation Services (URS) has always been a gathering place where people of all abilities can learn, grow and socialize.
Your gift is needed now, more than ever, to ensure that the children and adults we serve have access to inspiring programming and critical services.
URS is Josh’s home away from home. His mom, Jodi, describes him as a “social butterfly,” who missed seeing his friends when URS had to suspend in-person Adult Services programming during the stay-at-home order earlier this year. When URS finally re-opened on April 13, 2020, Jodi and Josh felt confident that coming back to URS was the right thing to do. “Josh’s world is rather small and he’s happiest when he’s with his friends, interacting with the staff, and learning new skills,” said Jodi.
Over the past few months, URS has re-imagined the community in this new world and found ways to provide enriching activities for all of our clients, including those who engage with us virtually from home. Volunteers are using “Zoom” to lead music therapy, provide exercise classes and to teach clients how to advocate for themselves. URS is partnering with local arts organizations to offer virtual visual and performing arts experiences, and offering telehealth occupational, physical and speech therapy services for those who are unable to receive therapies in-person in their state-of-the-art clinic.
Your gift will make a real difference in the lives of children and adults who depend on URS to provide a sense of belonging and friendship. Thank you!
