Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After a colleague jokingly suggested the idea, I am preparing for Le Tour des Ècoles – a mammoth charity bike ride of approximately 1,000 miles/1,600 km, taking in all 284 Church of England Schools in the Oxford Diocese (that I work with) in the run up to the Tour de France. Although at first I thought the idea was bonkers, after some thought I decided to run (or rather pedal) with it.
This is going to see me cycling approximately 1,000 miles/1,600 km, the equivalent of just over the length of the UK, from Lands End to John O'Groats, and climbing more than 50,000 feet/15,420 meters, more than one-and-half times the height of Everest. It is also two-and-a-half times the height of Kilimanjaro, my last big challenge back in 2012.
The provisional route covers the roads of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes, the area covered by the Diocese. Despite being having competed in several endurance events I am not complacent about the challenge of cycling day after day with only two rest days in the middle. Keeping going on routes I’ve not ridden before will not be easy, and with my navigational skills I’m also worried about veering off the route and getting lost.
I’m looking to raise money for Cancer Research as recently I know so many people who have been affected by the disease.
