We offer treatment for gambling addiction to help reclaim and rebuild lives

Story

Gordon Moody is the UK's only charity dedicated to providing treatment and support for those most severely affected by gambling addiction. We've been saving lives since 1971 by providing recovery in a safe and supported environment. Your support means we can help more people to reclaim and rebuild a life free from gambling addiction.

On the 13 th of August 2022 at 10.30 am a group of women and their families will again take to the streets of London  from Westminster bridge across 7 bridges in a charity walk in a bid to raise awareness of the support available to women facing gambling addiction. This is the follow up to last year’s inaugural walk and will include crossing 7 of London’s most iconic bridges to signify getting to the other side and freedom from addiction.

The walk is fundraising for Gordon Moody, a charity that celebrated 50 years of supporting those severely affected by gambling addiction in 2021. Gordon Moody provides female and male specific programmes in a safe and supported environment, providing the most effective therapies, intervention and counselling possible.

While there has been growing visibility of women reaching out for help, there is still work required to ensure that women get the right support, right treatment and right environment to deal with the range of complex issues that need to be tackled in helping them address their gambling addiction. Gambling is the hidden addiction, hidden further within that is the story of women gamblers and women who are affected by others.

“As the mother of a compulsive gambler I am delighted to join the Walk of Freedom in July , I hope to catch up with new friends I made on last years walk “ Bernadette  Gilham

“I am 49 Years old and gambled most of my life, ended up losing everything including my home . At 45 years old I started my recovery through GA and never looked back . I now support people with gambling addiction and have set up a group New beginnings , work with Betknowmore , have great opportunities and Life without gambling is Good “ Lisa Walker.

“ Gordon Moody let me be me , I gave me the tools to live a life without judgement with empathy and understanding “  Tracy .

“ It’s during our darkest moments that we must focus on the light”  Aristotle

Light shines from within , sharing is caring , we are never alone . Tracy

Following her successful completion of treatment through Gordon Moody’s retreat and counselling programme, which offers remote 1 to1 therapy sandwiched between 2 stays at a retreat location. Stacey has remained gambling free and has dedicated her time to raising awareness of the issue of gambling addiction in women.

As well as being active across social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and TikTok where Stacey has over 30,000 followers, Stacey decided to share her journey by writing a book. Titled “The Girl Gambler”  through the book’s protagonist ‘Steph’ who charts the journey of a young woman affected by gambling addiction.

“ You can get better , you can break the cycle, no matter how long you may have had your addiction, it’s NEVER TO LATE “  Stacey Goodwin x
