Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
The first sign we remember of Sylvia not being herself was Christmas 2010 when as a family we visited her and Dennis. Just like on every other occasion she produced some food - that evening a plate of biscuits, but then she proceeded to bring another plate of biscuits followed by another plate of biscuits, she also wouldn't settle and kept getting up to go to the kitchen. It was a strange evening as she didn't appear to be herself, and one that we will remember forever.
Over the months and looking back now, it was apparent that she had changed and was no longer the Sylvia that we all knew and loved. Eventually she was diagnosed in November 2011 just like her Dad before her with Alzheimer's Disease.
Sadly we lost her on the 12th July 2013, another day we will not forget. Whilst swimming at our gym a call came through to say Sylvia was very unwell. The drive to the hospital was awful but it had a purpose and that was to be there for her when she needed her family around her the most, and to this day I am convinced she hung on for that moment.
Life hasn't been the same since and we are all trying to find a different path to follow but it is hard. It is the little things that we do like only this morning trying to arrange flowers for Abbie, I thought Sylv would know how to do this properly and the tears flowed once more. David will play a piece of music that she loved and he struggles to get to the end.
So this is why David and I are doing the Great North Swim for Alzheimer's Society on 13th June 2015. We are going to swim a mile across Lake Windermere in our lovely swimming caps and wetsuits.
Any amount of money donated will help The Alzheimer's Society and lets face it, no-one knows who will need them in the future. We may all joke, "I think the Alzheimer's is kicking in", but it really is a cruel disease as much for the carer as the person suffering.
To our guardian angel looking down on us….
We love and miss you,
David, Tracey, The Webbs, Sumners, Pinsons and everyone else blessed with your love and generosity over the years Xx
