We provide care and treatment to help more people survive cancer

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for our charity cycle raising money for Guy’s Cancer Charity.

In February 2022 we received the heart wrenching news that my girlfriend, Lucie, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

This was definitely a curveball and something we weren’t expecting to deal with at 27 years old. We definitely had no idea what was in store over the coming months or how to prepare for it.

Watching someone, especially a loved one, battling cancer is not easy to say the least and I felt like there was something more that I could do.

As a fairly active cyclist I came up with the idea of cycling from London (where we live), to St Albans (Lucie’s home) to Devizes (my home) a distance of 200km in 1 day to raise money for Guy’s cancer charity where Lucie is receiving her treatment. The facilities and staff at Guy’s are absolutely amazing and have made the past few months as stress free as possible.

Luckily for us we have a great group of friends and family to help along the way including 4 of my friends who have volunteered to join me on this cycle to raise some cash for Guy’s.

For anyone else that may have concerns about breast cancer or would like some help please check out the NHS, Cancer Research and Breast Cancer Now sites below:

With a focus on patient-centred care, we combine state-of-the art-equipment, novel clinical trials, passionate staff and the most modern cancer research with compassion and effective psychological support so that our patients and their loved ones can feel fully supported throughout their cancer journey. We do this because we know each person and every cancer is unique - we don’t want to treat them all the same. Guy’s is the leading UK provider of care and treatment for people with cancer and we’re dedicated to helping patients navigate what can be the most challenging time of their lives. With all our services located under one roof within our bright and welcoming Cancer Centre, we’re able to offer seamless care every step of the way, from diagnosis, through treatment, and after, in an environment that doesn’t feel like a traditional hospital. We know that the landscape of cancer is changing. More people are being affected, but we’re at an exciting point in time when promising new therapies are being developed and research breakthroughs are waiting to be made. It’s crucial that we continue to fund the innovative research, treatment and exceptional care that takes place at Guy’s to ensure we keep going above and beyond what the NHS alone can provide as we help more people cope with and survive cancer.
