Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have decided to take part in this years Bupa 10000 to fundraise for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans. Blesma works tirelessly to support all serving and ex-Service men and women who have lost limbs, or
lost the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing
rehabilitation activities and welfare support.
I was injured on 4th June 2010, which left me with spinal injuries, which was complicated and left me with an uncertain prognosis, whereby I was often told, I would never walk again. Never regain bowel or urinary function and less than 5% chance in having kids. I spent 7 months laying on my back before I was strong enough to be transferred to Headley Court for rehab admissions where I worked tirelessly on the motor skills needed to gain the ability back to stand. 18months later, with the aid of good walking aids, (walking sticks and splints) I began training my legs to walk again. 6 years on. I am no longer walking with walking sticks, but splints remain. I have two daughters of toddler age, regained other functions too. I have been Skiing with Battleback, presently race with KartForce. Trailed for Invictus games and play wheelchair basketball.
During my time at Headley Court. I came across BLESMA who frequently provided transport for myself and other wounded soldiers to Headley Court and Back, to enable us to attend rehab. Also they had provided us with invitations to little events whilst at Headley Court and more recently last year had invited myself as a guest at Buckingham Palace, Back Garden Party. This enabled my time at Headley Court to be somewhat more enjoyable and made the pain I was putting myself under to walk again, worth it. Provided a positive distraction from the mental torment I was in also having suffered with PTSD. I have witnessed and had the pleasure of experiencing the positivity BLESMA brings to injured soldiers and Veterans. Without them, my rehab journey would have been somewhat more enduring.
Please, please give generously and don't forget to add Gift Aid :)
Thankyou
