Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As a veteran campaigner and fundraiser for Cancer charities I have met so many cancer sufferers over the years. I have made so many friends and met too many people that are sadly no longer here. These people are the reason I keep doing what I do.
If I have learned one thing from all the people I have met, it is that tough times bring the best out of all of us. I have met and got to know so many brave souls and it is these people that inspire me to keep going.
This challenge is my tribute to people fighting or affected by cancer.
This time I want to pay tribute particularly to young people and their families.
When young people and children are ill the whole family faces such an
unbelievable burden and it’s often harder for the relatives not going through the illness.
Often the family is devastated financially as parents need to give up work or reduce working hours. Siblings are often robbed of attention and nurturing as focus is shifted to the child that is ill.
Sara's Hope Foundation has one mission... To give families from the UK, affected by the devastating impact of cancer, a much needed break from long hospital stays, traumatic medical procedures and cancer related treatments – so that they may spend quality time together recuperating and enjoying life as a ‘normal’ family – strengthening relationships and creating lasting happy memories.
Ok here we go…. On Saturday 4 June 2016 I will set off
and attempt a journey of 1320 miles carrying on my back best part of 7 stone my trusty 42kg Smeg Fridge.. Why Carry a Fridge? The Fridge represents the burden we all feel when a loved one has cancer. The journey represents the seeming impossible journey cancer sufferers face on the road to recovery.
100 Great North Runs in 100 days.carrying a Fridge!
I will run as near as possible the exact Great North Run route every day from 4 June until the official Great North Run on 11 September 2016.
Which means I will be running a Half Marathon carrying a 93lb Smeg Fridge everyday for over 14 weeks!
As you may already know in 2012 I ran 30 GNR’S in 30 Days and only just made it to the end. This time the fridge is heavier and the journey is off the scale!
I will be running in the main on an evening so that anybody training for this year’s GNR can join me for a few miles and a chat.
I expect the toll on my body and mind is likely to be enormous and the journey we can safely say fits into the category of impossible, but I believe in the youth of today I believe in family and I believe in Rainbows
which is why I am raising money in aid of Sara’s Hope Foundation.
Around £1500 will take a family of 4 away for 7 days so please donate to Saras Hope Foundation and help as many families as possible.
Saras Hope Foundation keeps its operating costs to the very bare minimum so your donation is financing the cause and not being lost on excessive operation costs.
