Story
On the 14th May I am setting out to walk the West
Highland Way from Milngavie on the outskirts of our Capital City Glasgow to the
foot of our highest mountain – Ben Nevis.
The walk is over 96 miles of arduous Highland terrain and
also involves 12,000 feet of climbing.
I’m also looking to help a very worthwhile cause en route.
If you love the great outdoors you’ll be familiar with the
sterling work undertaken by the Mountain Rescue Service.
The Mountain Rescue Service is staffed entirely by
volunteers who go out in all conditions to assist anyone in difficulty on the
Scottish Mountains
They take huge personal risk and give their time freely not
only on Search & Rescue missions but also on training exercises and first aid
courses.
They rescue hundreds of people every year and it’s all grant aid or charitably
funded
On February 8th this year Torridon Mountain
Rescue Team were called out in atrocious blizzard conditions to search for a
friend of mine – Alan Gibson – and his brother Neil - who’d gone missing in
Lochcarron.
Sadly Alan and his brother were killed by avalanche but the
bravery and determination of Torridon Mountain Rescue in searching for them is
worthy of our gratitude and acknowledgement.
These very brave men and women endured the most adverse and
dangerous winter conditions on many occasions over several weeks to finally
recover the two brothers and bring some closure to the family
I’m hoping to raise a £5000 – in memory of the Gibson brothers
– to allow Torridon Mountain Rescue to continue helping those in difficulty on
the hills
It’s A Worthy Cause
Thank You
Tony
