JUST A QUICK UPDATE - TREK COMPLETED & IT WASWAS VERY HARD BUT WORTH WHILE.
MANY THANKS FOR ALL THOSE WHO GAVE SUPPORT TO ME - TONY
Well everyone I am at it again
This time it’s an 80k Trek on the . I will face a complete set of personal challenges with this one as I am 2 years further down the road since diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. As always I have the backing & support of my wife Jane – daughters Victoria + Laura & the PD Society. A good friend Steve Parsons has stepped up to the plate & is joining me with this trek (in the words of Harry Enfield’s character - Tim Nice But Dim – “what a bloody good bloke”)Whenever you see the , like me you must feel deep respect to the people who constructed this great engineering marvel & to walk upon one of the world's greatest feats of engineering, will be a fantastic but challenging adventure.
SO – now all I need you to do is with a little bit of effort - put your hands deep into your pockets & remove the fluff of the boiled sweet- then give me as much money as you can to help me raise a whole lot of dosh. DON’T PUT IT OFF TILL LATER – DO IT NOW . . . PLEASE… Here is a brief outline of the trek – also look at the photos to see how hard it will be.Badaling - This is by far the most representative and probably most famous. It is the grandest and most splendid section of all, closest to . Badaling has the most renovation and is well managed and consequently, much safer to walk along than other sections.
Mutianyu - This is the second most redeveloped section after Badaling, with high forest cover and remarkable views in fall and summer. It is steeper than Badaliang but less congested by tourists.
Simatai - Simatai has had less renovation yet is well preserved. As well as its ruins, it is considered by many as the best section of the Great Wall. Here those who are not in good physical condition are advised not to climb this section in view of its cragginess.
Jinshanling - the section that is completely un-restored, in bad weather it can be quite treacherous and is recognised as the most dangerous section of the trek but the most rewarding.
Many thanks for your support - Cheers & Beers - Tony.
