Story
Many people are now familiar with the often quoted statistic that 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health problem in any given year. We will likely all know someone with a mental health problem at some point throughout our lives and we must all care and attend to our own mental health, so this is an issue that affects us all.
However, our mental health is something we can often overlook or neglect, despite the fact it can often be more important than our physical health.
Helping others to live their best life and stay positive in life is very important to me.
Mental Health issues can occur at any time and appear without warning, overcoming and consuming individuals like a permanent cold. In fact, most mental health issues are connected with how we view and value ourselves. It’s at those times when we possess little self-regard that we can become depressed, fall short of our potential or feel like a failure.
For me, this trek is about supporting London based organisation Hestia(https://www.hestia.org/mental-health), which provided support for my friend at a difficult time and which supports many individuals across London. Often individuals who face heavy depression need immediate care, but often have to wait for professional support. It shouldn’t and didn’t have to be like that.
Last year, Hestia supported 2,200 individuals across their Mental Health & Complex Needs services in London. Their work includes community support, day centres, supported accommodation and befriending services, and enables people to recover at their own pace, on their own terms.
Every penny I am able to raise will go Hestia.
Donate now, because everyone deserves the opportunity to recover.
