Story
Thirteen of us at England Golf are going the extra mile – or 20 - this year for Macmillan Cancer Support.
We’re taking part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge, playing 72 holes at
Woodhall Spa Golf Club on 21 June to raise funds to help people living
with cancer.
I'm proud to be working for an organisation who have officially
partnered with Macmillan this year to help make this event an even bigger success - and I want to send good luck wishes to all
the other clubs and golfers who are taking part.
This challenge is a very personal one to me - as not only do I
work in golf, but also in 2011 I was diagnosed with cancer, so have experienced first hand the fantastic work charities like Macmillan do.
I am happy to say that following a handful of operations,
radiotherapy and some ongoing treatment - after 5 challenging years I was given the all-clear back in 2016.
Its so important to me that I can share my story to show
everyone that it is possible to beat cancer - and believe me, if I can do it anyone can!!
Cancer is scary, and obviously we all know how devastating it can
be - but there are many examples just like mine that can act as reassurance and motivation to anyone going through difficult times at the moment.
I might not be as fit as I used to be and still carry a few
aches and pains as a result of the treatment, but that's nothing - I can't wait to get on the golf course, play 72 holes, walk 20+ miles, have a laugh with my friends and colleagues and lose count of the amount of shots it takes me to complete the challenge :-)
The only thing that worries me is the 4:30am start.....and the
fact I'm a very bad golfer!!
This is a brilliant charity and believe me it will be one hell
of a challenge - I'd be delighted if you could sponsor me and the rest of the England Golf team.
Thanks so much.
(I better go and get some practice...)
