Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Myself and my son Thomas, 12 years old, are setting off on Saturday 20th August from my home in Ayr and cycling to Liverpool, an overall distance of around 230 miles. We will be taking seven and a half days to do the trip (so an average of around 30 miles each day). We have B&B stops along the way at Carsphairn, Dumfries, Gretna, Penrith, Kendal, Garstang, Ormskirk - finishing in Liverpool around noon on Saturday 27th August.
This will be a challenge for us both ! We are very fortunate to have support on hand in a backup car tracking us or closeby most of the way should we need assistance - this will also enable us to 'travel light' with minimum luggage on our bikes. We decided to do this for ourselves, because we want to. We are viewing it as a holiday, as seven days of cycling together, at a leisurely pace and with lots of stops (and walking up hills!) - also stopping to see some sights along the way. The main objective is for us to spend some good father and son time together doing this, always safely and without hurting ourselves - for us to look back on it as a positive experience. This is unknown territory for us both and neither of us know for sure how we will cope - but we shall find out soon enough and adapt if neccessary! In reality, this means that we may or may not cycle each and every mile - we will see how it goes for both of us - but barring any major problems we will certainly cycle at least some miles each of the seven and a half days - we will be using GPS/iPhone technology for totting up our exact mileage covered, and certainly pushing and trying our best, but as mentioned, always within our limits and with safety in mind.
Thomas is collecting for Autism and already has loads of sponsorship. I will be collecting for the MS Society.
If you would like to sponsor me here at JustGiving your support would be very much appreciated by the Ayrshire & Arran branch of the MS Society.
