I COMPLETED this challenge for  Ashgate Hospice on Saturday 18th November. The Challenge was to climb Mt. Everest on a stairmaster, a height of 8,849 meters or 29,032 feet and took over 13 hours to complete. The challenge took place at S20 Health and Fitness in Sheffield  

Ashgate Hospice are based in my hometown of Chesterfield, the charity help the people of the North Derbyshire region and beyond. They work with energy, care and compassion so that people can have a good death in a place of their choosing and know that their loved ones are important to us too. 

Unfortunately in October 2016, just 6 days after being diagnosed with cancer, my mum (Vivienne Rowland) passed away. Ashgate Hospice were amazing with my dad, my grandad and myself in the aftermath offering fantastic bereavement support. It is important to me that they can carry on to be able to do this for other families that will be experiencing the same trauma that our family did 7 years ago. 

They aim to provide, educate and campaign for excellent palliative, end of life care and bereavement support. They do this all this while aspiring to be a centre of excellence. 

The palliative and end-of-life care they offer is free of charge to people aged 18 and over. They care for people living with major illnesses such as; cancer, neurological diseases and end-stage heart, kidney and lung diseases.

I did this because I don’t want anyone, who may find themselves in the horrible position my family did, to not have this care on offer. I know of so many people who have been effected in some way by either a friend or family member dying and first hand seen the fabulous services that Ashgate Hospice offer and therefore want them to be available for others in need too.
