Story

The training for this is alot worse than i imagined.........

Bing! The light bulb goes on "I know how i can help - I’ll raise money for an organisation that leads the fight against dementia".

Yes, I think to myself....  I like bikes, I cycle a bit so it shouldn’t be too hard and besides I' ve done the London to Brighton!

Now that I’ve looked at it, I now understand why people will sponsor me to do this. This is 500 kms not 50!

Once the reality had sunk in, I rightly panicked and enlisted the help of a professional trainer. Mark Barrett has listened to me moaning and bleating on about how difficult it is, what part of my body hurts and questioning if I really need to do quite so much training. He's very patient.

So what is the training you ask, what could be so difficult? Basically, its every day of the week, its a hour minimum in the gym first thing followed by some very specific cycling in the evening after work 4 out of 5 week days. I used to get Saturdays off but now i get to do an hour or two of hill repeats (don’t ask - they're horrible) and Sundays have turned from a nice little "lie in" to a 6am start followed by 5 hours on my road bike. Needless to say Saturday nights have been tempered some what although I’m trying to make up for it on Fridays!

I really feel that with the right discipline I can do this, for me it’s a matter of keeping sight of my motivation, my wife’s dear mum, Gill. We will all miss her very much.
