Story
Malawi is the "Warm Heart" of Africa yet 10% of the population, 1.7m men, women and children don't have access to safe water.
In the UK we flush our toilets and wash our cars with water that is entirely safe and yet in Malawi 1,700 children die every year due to diarrhoea from drinking unsafe water.
So this is my attempt to do something about it.
Malawi has special significance for me as I was born there and spent my first 3 years there, going back once in 1998. I can honestly say the Malawians are the nicest, friendliest and most genuinely selfless people I have ever had the privilege to meet.
The fundraising target is £3,002 as that is the height of Mt Mulanje (in meters, for the particularly generous this is 9,849 ft...). The Trek will be hard, there are snakes, tough terrain, scorpions and fairly oppressive heat but it pales into insignificance at pain caused by unsafe water and hopefully with this trek and with your generous support we can make a significant difference to the lives of people in Malawi. Please note I will be covering the flight and accommodation costs so as to ensure every penny you donate reaches WaterAid and the fantastic work they do.
The money you donate goes directly towards projects and can have a real impact, for example:
£15 helps give one person access to clean water
£30 helps provide training for a local water and sanitation committee
£50 helps provide training for a village pump mechanic
Please donate whatever you can, it will have a huge impact and I promise i'll buy you a pint next time I see you x (terms and conditions may apply!)
