Story
My name is Captain Tom Evans of The Welsh Guards.
For this event I will be pushing myself to the extremes to raise money for my regiment charity. I will be running ‘The Marathon des Sables’ which is an ultra-marathon in the Sahara Desert, consisting of six stages over the course of seven days. Visit the website here: http://marathondessables.com/en/
Please dig deep for this worthy cause, The Welsh Guards Charity do incredible work supporting the welfare of fellow soldiers and families in times of extreme need. Hero's for our regiment and for our country; men who need all of the support we can give them.
You can donate as little as £1, many £1's will make a huge number so please support.
The challenge is to run 150 – 156 miles (254km) through the desert in 120degree heat over the course of seven days. All of my food and drink will travel with me in a backpack for the whole race and one of the most challenging days will consist of an 81km stretch (52miles in one day). Bearing this in mind, my aim is to finish with in the top 20 athletes.
When the time comes, you will be able to follow my progress in the race. If you or anyone you know would like to sponsor my equipment please let me know.
The charity works to commemorate and remember those members or former members of the Welsh Guards who have lost their lives or suffered injury. It also aims to relive individual people who are serving or who have served in the Welsh Guards or dependents of those individuals who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress. Within the army these circumstances are very common and should therefore be close to everyone’s hearts; every penny donated will go towards this tremendous cause.
