We're taking part in an exciting yet rather LONG walk in crazy fancy dress to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham to help contribute towards 'Building a Home for the Brave'.
We are walking 13 miles on Sunday 6th June to help raise funds to build a new rehabilitation centre for the Military guys who are returning from being out in service.
Birmingham has a long history of providing the best immediate medical care for those returning with sometimes devastating injury, But the care has to go beyond the operations, the drips and the skilled surgeons, it’s about the journey back from the injuries of the battlefield - to really living again.That means having somewhere close to the hospital where that process can begin. A dedicated space in a comfortable setting, away from the clinical areas. It's difficult to over-estimate the importance of this to those who have gone through so much - and their families.
The money raised will help the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity to develop facilities not normally found in a hospital. Small private areas, each one helping military patients and their families during different stages of their difficult journey together. They'll be near the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, which is moving from Selly Oak to the new QE hospital. There'll be areas for patients to receive visitors, especially comrades from their own units as well as other military personnel, and catch up on news from home
We would really appreciate anything you can spare for the cause. Work will match whatever we raise up to the value of £250 so they will get double what you give.
