Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most of you will know that On May 13th 2010, I lost my Dad, to Pancreatic Cancer. My dad was such a huge part of my life. We had a bond that only a Father and Daughter can explain. Losing him has left a huge hole in my life that will never be filled. I think about him every day..... the humour we shared, his wonderful ability to care, listen and take an interest in everyone around him, his love of music that we shared. He was generous and kind and such an emotional soul. He loved life and his family.Anyone that knew him undoubtedly had a funny tale to tell and he was so well liked by everyone he met. Gladly he walked me down the aisle and held all my children. I am content that he saw me happy and he knew I would be looked after my whole life by a wonderful husband.
My dad died 6 months from his diagnosis. Each year 8000 people in UK alone are diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and it still has the lowest survival rate of all cancers ...Just 3 per cent!!! This hasnt changed for 40 years. Pancreatic Cancer is notoriously difficult to diagnose and treat. It is very aggressive and the symptoms are vague and appear at a late stage. Surgery is rarely an alternative.
Despite its high death rate, Pancreatic Cancer still attracts little research and funding in comparison to many other cancers. We need to raise awareness and the need for more research. Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund (PCRF) exists to try and address these issues. To not only raise funds but to be a voice for Pancreatic Cancer sufferers. PCRF directly fund research into Pancreatic Cancer by offering grants to researchers in UK, Universities, Research Institutes and Hospitals.
On March 18th 2012 I shall attempt to swim, 1.9km, cycle 90km and run a Half Marathon in an Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in Singapore to raise funds for this cause. This is the only thing I can now do for my Dad. I cannot let him die without doing something for this terrible disease. Please pray that I cross the line on March 18th!!!
This is for you Dad.... I would also like to dedicate this to Scott in Australia who is currently battling this disease and to all my friends who have lost their dear friends and family members to Pancreatic Cancer (you know who you are.....)
Thanking you all in advance.
