Story
Its nearly six years since my world changed forever. It was a strange combination of being both the happiest and scariest time of my life.
Harry and Lola were born on 22nd May 2011, and whilst this now represents a happy time each and every year, at the time we hoped their arrival would be a whole two months later. We are convinced that Harry was quite comfortable and content to go along with our plan, Lola on the other hand had decided it was time they made their entrance.
Harry and Lola were born in Royal Lancaster Infirmary and spent the first two months of their lives living on the Neonatal Unit. They were born weighing 3lb4oz and 3lb11oz and Harry was particularly ill at one point. There were lots of ups and downs, tears, smiles and laughter and they were ultimately discharged on their due date.
Its difficult to express in words the gratitude I have for the role that the Neo Natal Unit provided in our lives. We could not have hoped, or wished, for more knowledgeable, caring and supportive staff that we were lucky enough to meet on the ward, delivery suite and the Neonatal Unit.
When Harry and Lola were sent home as healthy and happy babies I promised I would do something to raise money for the unit. Admittedly a few years have passed but I have never forgotten my promise.
In April I am running the London Marathon and hoping to raise funds solely for the Neonatal Unit at Lancaster. The money raised will go towards the equipment fund which allows staff to purchase equipment that will directly benefit its patients. Perhaps if I raise enough they might look after Harry and Lola for two months this summer!
