Fundraising for Mainstay DRP
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Downe Residential Project (DRP) was established as a charity in 1989 by a group of parents and carers in Downpatrick, whose aim was to develop a range of services for people who have a learning disability and their families. From small beginnings the Project has grown so that it now provides 3 residential care homes, 2 respite services, supported housing and daycare services for people from throughout the Co.Down. Downe Residential Project has recently embarked on its most ambitious project to-date. It is intended to build purpose built village to provide suitable accommodation, and day-care for adults who have a learning disability as they grow older and their mobility and health needs change. Planning permission has already been obtained and now it’s down to financials. With some funding coming from the charitable arms of larger corporate entities there is a significant shortfall. This is where I come in. Along with 22 others including staff at the Project I have agreed to participate in a fundraising cycle in Egypt in November of this year to raise funds. This a big challenge and the training has already commenced. It is difficult in such dire economic times to ask for money, but this particular cause is worthy and provides a tremendous boost to our local economy and employment. The Project employs in excess of 120 people in the Downpatrick area and provides a home to 50 people, day-care for 65 clients, and respite to 70 families from throughout the area. Ciaran in the photo is 19 years of age; he has severe learning disabilities and autism along with epilepsy and chrons disease. He has no speech and is very dependent on others to care for him and keep him safe. Ciaran lives at home with his mum who has poor mobility which is deteriorating. Ciaran needs a home for life with staff who understand his needs, he has been on the waiting list 2 years but no where suitable is available. Killough Road can provide a home for Ciaran and others in a similar position. I hope you can help – even in a small way and thank you sincerely for considering my plea. If you are a business please send no more than £20.00 and if a private individual £10.00. You can donate by sending a cheque or cash directly to me, made payable to Downe Residential Project, or by logging onto my just giving account www.justgiving.com/Timothy-Hopkins the latter will automatically attract gift aid.
