My ex wife, Kim Akers discovered a lump in her breast in early 2004. We had amicably separated in May 2003. She went through chemotherapy and radiology and went into remission in 2005. Sadly, the breast cancer returned in her liver, lungs and possibly brain in May 2007. Unfortunately, this time it was considered terminal. She passed away 28th June 2007, five weeks after her devastating diagnosis aged just 41 years old.
She wanted to die a divorced woman, and we managed to achieve that 6 days before she died. Although she knew her diagnosis was terminal, she was her brave and normal self, always considerate of others before herself. She left behind our two sons, Liam and Sam. Liam was 14, Sam was 11 at the time of her death. If by doing this, the money raised can help someone out there, not go through what my boys (and me) did 15 years ago, then it's worth it.
I've chosen Macmillan Cancer Research, as Macmillan nurses cared for Kim throughout her illnesses, and I thought they were fantastic. Macmillan Cancer Research not only researches cures for different cancers, they also provide specialist nursing and support staff to look after cancer sufferers and provide help to their families.
Please read the paragraph below about what Macmillan do. Thank you for reading Kim's story, and if you do decide to sponsor me, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
