UPDATE (by a friend as Tim is currently sleeping in a piggery in the middle of Fnowhere):

Tim in his wisdom well known to friends, decided that the 500km vehicle ride back was not for him and so is currently cycling back - alone, with no back up, supplies, shelter or company - oh and in only 2.5 days.  

Today he has cycled 210km, uphill and against the wind, found a friendly village with a piggery to sleep in (he may even get a cuddle?), and tomorrow has a similar distance to cover.

He wants his mum to know he is ok, and everyone else to throw some encouraging pennies this direction ...

As i sit in my office rollerchair, all i can say is BRAVO... and dig deep for a great cause, and questionable THB wisdom...

3 weeks ago I left the UK for a 3 month trip to Zambia with a loose plan of helping out with a good friend's sustainable development projects and investigating Zambian water policy in preparation for my Masters starting in October.

Zambia is a fabulous country and whilst poverty is prevalent the country retains a buoyant, happy and optimistic approach to life.  That said the harsh realities of life in such poverty constitute an ever present struggle, and it is no more evident than with the vulnerable members of society.

There are a scary number of orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia, and while the multitude of amazing individuals and charities work wonders, extra help and support is always needed and greatly appreciated.  One such charity is Beyond Ourselves who are improving the lives of countless Zambian children through education, nutrition and medial care.  Please check out their website here: http://www.beyondourselves.co.uk

I'm joining a number of other supporters to do battle with Zambian roads armed only with some highly questionable lycra and large pot of Vaseline! The plan is to ride/mountain bike (the roads cannot be described as billiard cloth smooth!) 473km in 4 days from Lusaka to Livingstone, arriving at our destination on the 19th of July.

Please support this 4 day game of chicken with Zambian drivers and an incredibly worthy cause.
