Story
I am running the London Marathon in 2014 for Brain Tumour UK.
Brain Tumour UK is a charity close to my heart. Last April my best man and oldest school friend was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour and expectations weren`t high that he would see the end of 2013. He, his wife, children, family and friends have been an inspiration to me and as I create this page he has reacted positively to the intense radio and chemotherapy.
Brain Tumour UK is the UK-wide caring charity committed to fighting brain tumours, focusing on three key areasWhat we do
:- providing support; funding research; and raising awareness.
I am specifically raising money for the HeadSmart campaign whose focus is to reduce the time it takes to diagnose children and young people with brain tumours in the UK. Children in the UK with a brain tumour may take up to three times longer to be diagnosed than children in other countries such as the United States. Reducing the time to diagnosis should reduce the long-term disability that many children and young people diagnosed with a brain tumour currently experience.
I completed the Marathon in 2012 in 5 hrs 16 minutes and in many ways it feels harder second time round knowing what to expect of both the training and the 26 miles themselves, particularly as I found the recent Birmingham half marathon harder than ever!
Any donations big or small are gratefully received.
With Thanks
Tim
