Story
Hello there,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
With just over four weeks to go to the race I am getting pretty nervous and I curse the day I let my friend Gavin talk me into it. At the same time I had always thought that I would like to compete in a triathlon.....one day.
It was a big shock to me when I started my swimming training over six weeks ago. I couldn't complete one length of front crawl! It was only then that I realised that it must have been over 10 years since I had last tried the stroke, always preferring breast stroke when swimming.
My intensive (3 times a week) swimming training currently sees me able to complete 8 lengths of front crawl, after reading up on online tips and getting some tips from Gav (who just happens to be a great swimmer!) So I think on the day I will resort to one of two techniques 1) mixed front crawl and breast stroke or 2) drowning. Although I don't really want to upset the spectators so I'll try not to drown :)
Now on to my strength; cycling. I have done a lot of cycling in the past and I am currently trying to improve my speed for the relatively short distance of 15 km in the race. It should be by far my best part of the race but I know I will have to absolutely destroy myself in the cycling stage to get the most advantage from it.
My running is OK but nothing amazing. It's also pretty difficult changing from cycling to running, so I am doing some training alternating running and cycling in the same session.
So why all the serious training? Firstly I want to make it through the swim alive, which was never going to happen otherwise. Secondly I want to see how I can push my body and learn to take the pain. Lastly I HAVE to beat Gav!
I am also really glad that the sponsership I raise is all going to support the great work done by SPW the global leader in engaging and supporting young people to address the urgent health, education, and environmental issues in their lives. SPW’s youth-led programmes reach more than 400,000 young people every week and are cited as an example of best practice by UNICEF, UNAIDS, and the World Bank for their unique methodology. Please chekc out their webpage at http://www.spw.org/about.php
Thanks very much for your support.
Appropriate love
