Friends of Africa’s mission is to work with young people in Ireland and our partner countries in Africa, providing personal and social development opportunities. Thinking globally and acting locally will underpin our work in creating a more just and equal world.

Story

Folks,

I will be part of a team of volunteers who will travel to Tanzania in June of this year. The team will work for four weeks on youth development projects in the town of Mwanza.

Projects include delivering personal and social development workshops in areas of relationships and gender equality, working with vulnerable young women who live in poverty, a shared education and learning for life programme and the running of a summer camp for the local teenagers and young adults. The camp will include a variety of sports, formal English tutorials, informal youth workshops around health and social issues and celebrating culture and diversity.

Volunteers will attend a series of preparatory training sessions and will have an OCN accreditation in youth work before departing. Each volunteer is contributing to covering their own costs and is asked to fundraise a further £2500 which will go directly to the projects in Africa. Any support you can provide towards the programme would be greatly appreciated

Thanks to anyone who will be kind enough to donate, T.
