Story
In June I am cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End to raise money for Camfed. That is over 100 miles a day for 9 days (982 miles in total).
Camfed works by supporting girls to stay on at school in Africa. This means that they improve their lives and also the lives of those around them. A girl who leaves school at 12 in Africa is likely to have three or four children by the time she is 20, is three times more likely to contract HIV/AIDS, and will probably have a life with very few choices. CAMFED's work shows that if girls, in particular, can be supported to stay in education, their lives, and those of their children, are dramatically improved. Please support me in this. I'm hoping to raise £2,000, as this will provide school uniforms to enable 80 girls to stay on at school.
I am doing the ride in memory of my mother-in-law, Jennifer Longford, who died last year. She taught in a girls' school in Tanzania, and this is a cause that would have been very dear to her heart.
