Story
Two cousins, Charlie & Joe Thomas as well as a friend of the family Barry Mitchell are cycling a spectacular 360 mile route through the best things to see in Snowdonia, Anglesey, Llŷn Peninsula and the North Wales Coast. We intend to do this over 4 days starting on the 8th September 21.
So here's the why.... we lost our grandmother in 2002 to Motor Neurone Disease. Back in 2002 MND was a little known disease and there was little or no help available for her. The MND Association was there for her and for our family at a very scary time.
We slowly watched our grandmother lose her fight to this debilitating disease.
It was truly devastating to watch such a compassionate, caring woman reduced to just have the ability to blink, her family surrounding her but not being able to communicate after losing the ability to speak, not being able to tell all she held dear everything on her mind and in her heart. She finally lost the fight just 7 months from diagnosis, just 7 horrendous months watching and not being able to do anything to halt this progression.
Although there is still no cure, there is so much more emphasis on this disease. Modern technology, which was not around in 2002 for our grandmother allows MND sufferers to communicate for longer with voice recognition or by using eye gaze equipment.
The MND Association helps provide families with information, but not only that, they help with the day to day struggle of these MND warriors and their families. They were invaluable to us and therefore we as a family have fundraised ever since collectively raising over £90,000.
This disease took the heart of the family from us. It stole the time she would have had to watch us all grow, meeting here great grandchildren, ultimately losing the purest part of us all. Our love spurs us on all these years later, as we want to help any other families experiencing this journey.
On those 360 miles we will be remembering every beautiful detail and memory that we hold close of our irreplaceable grandmother.
Please help us reach our goal.
There is no finish line until there is a cure.....
