Kilometres for Kings - I'm going the distance for King's

Tom’s Walk for King’s · 19 August 2020
Ever since I was 12 years old, when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, King’s College Hospital have provided me with world-class care.
The liver experts at King’s looked after me throughout my teenage years, then again through my mid twenties when, in spite of excellent treatment, the PSC took a turn for the worse and I needed a liver transplant in 2012. I got the call for transplant in September, only three months after being added to the transplant list. The surgery was successful and after a slow recovery my new liver worked well. Two years later, I went back to King’s to have a subtotal colectomy and ileostomy which relieved me of years of colitis pain.
In 2018, King’s saved my life again after detecting an incredibly aggressive lymphoma quickly and providing me with 4 months of intensive chemotherapy. I was given a huge third chance, and received the all-clear in December that year.
I want to support all the excellent charities and causes that continue to help me and help so many people with complex medical needs, get the best life they deserve. King’s College Hospital is one of them, and very close to my heart. The wonderful NHS staff and dedicated frontline workers need our support now more than ever before.
