Story

Sorry about the slow update on here, but I can see people are still donating so a massive thank you to everyone who has added to this massive total! It's amazing and a whole lot more than we were expecting!

I'm not sure how, but every single one of us finished the ride so it was sponsorship well spent!

THANK YOU to everyone who did the ride and everyone who has donated!

Here we are again on another fundraising stint for Addenbrooke’s but this time with a bigger team, many more miles and a better name........

What

http://www.centurycyclechallenge.co.uk/index.html

In 2 teams with a total of 26 people, we will be cycling 102 miles from Nevil Holt to Brancaster in ONE day!

We are all at different levels, some of us haven’t been on a bike for years, others do spinning twice a week or have replaced the car with the bike and one of us has had brain surgery 3 times in the past 3 years.....but who’s counting!!  We are all coming together to do this no matter how fit we are or are not!

Why

After Fab, had a second aneurysm diagnosed in early 2009, we were desperate to find the best place for treatment for her. After a lot of research Addenbrooke's in Cambridge seemed to be the perfect place.

Without the fantastic help from the team at Addenbrooke's, especially Mr Kirkpatrick, Dr Higgins and their teams, I really don't think that we would be the family that we are today - although I have to tell you that the tenacity of my little sis made their job easier from the start...there was no way she was going to let it beat her.

How we managed to rope this many people into it I’m not sure but there was a fair amount of peer pressure....some might say bullying!  Rest assured that this will continue in the form of training suggestions and nutritional advice over the coming months.......

Please help however you can, I know the past year has been a difficult one financially, we're all feeling it. But seeing how easy it can be to save a life with the right equipment...I would love for nobody to have to go through what we've all gone through, but that's not achievable....what is achievable is to make the team's job easier so that they can diagnose and treat quicker.

 The Portable CT Scanner

ACT's major project this year is to raise £254,000 for a portable CT scanner for Neurosciences at Addenbrooke's.

It can currently take up to one hour for a team of staff to take a very sick patient down to the static scanner. The portable scanner can be used at the bedside in a ward, in theatre or in intensive care. It is urgently required.
