Story

3 DESMONDS - 3 DAYS - 3 PEAKS (hopefully!)

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The aim of the challenge is to climb the 3 highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis 4406 ft), England (Scafell Pike 3209 ft) and Wales (Snowdon 3560 ft) over 3 days. The challenge will take place over the weekend of 29th June to 1st July 2012.

There are several teams taking part in this challenge for the Parmiter's Parents' Association, who raise funds to provide facilities or items for education for students which might not be provided from statutory funds.  However we also wish to support other young people, therefore we will be donating 25% of the money raised to the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT), a charity devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer.

When this event was last run in 2008 the Parents' Association were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for £7,900 to TCT.  Since then TCT have been regular visitors to Parmiter's giving talks to the students to raise awareness of teenage cancers, and informing them of the work they do.

Every day in the UK six young people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer.  Up to the age of 16 they are likely to be treated in a paediatric ward alongside children, and once they are 16 they could end up in an adult ward alongside elderly patients. This means they are often in a hospital wards with no-one their age and feeling very isolated.  TCT provides young people with psychological, social & educational support; clear and accurate information, specialist facilities geared to their age, peer support and access to staff that understand them and their needs.

You can find out more about TCT and the work they do from the link below

Training is currently under way, although it's going to be a hard slog for some of us (me) to get fit!  So your support and donation, regardless of the amount, is very much appreciated.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
