Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I hadn’t really planned to do this but let me tell you how this came about. Over Christmas and New Year I went to the gym with my good friend Stephen, and as we were coming out i saw a poster on the wall for a charity bike ride. I cycle year round and always thought it would be good to raise funds for a charitable cause given I enjoy cycling anyway, but never took it any further. I noticed as I read the headline that this was for Leukaemia and Lymphoma North Wales. I stopped in my tracks, took the details down on my phone and signed up as soon as I got back.
In 1998 I lost my Grandad after a prolonged fight against Leukaemia. I count myself fortunate that I had the chance to spend so much time with him whilst he was with us, and looking back, I realise now that despite dealing with his declining health, he left me with so many wonderful memories of the time we did spend together, its hard to believe that he was ill at times.
More recently, my Wifes cousin Evan, was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Evan is 6 years old with his life ahead of him. Evan, and his sisters Gemma and Laura and I have always loved hanging around and goofing about together. We've been on holidays together, watched films together, celebrated Birthdays, Christmas's and New Years together, spent hours trying to crack missions on Club Penguin together, and it is an honour and privilege to not only call them family, but to count them all as friends. Having observed the effect of Evans diagnosis on him and the family over the last 3 months, I feel owe it to him to do this ride, in the hope that my cause appeals to as many of you as possible, that together, we can help contribute something towards the funding for research and also practical help for families who are living through this condition on a day to day basis.
I would appeal to you just to try and spare £1 from your account when you read this. Its easy in this day and age to think that such a modest donation won’t really make any difference, and no one will really notice, but if everyone on my Facebook page and who received this email in my social and work circles gave £1, you would help me to raise more than £500, which in the hands of my nominated charity, can be put to so many different uses!
