Story
First of all, thank you so much for visiting our JustGiving page.
As most of you will already know, we lost our Dad/Husband/Grandad /Great Grandad Geoff to Cancer in May 2016.
In his memory, and to celebrate what would have been his 77th birthday, us Wharton Girls (wife Jean, daughters Janet, Gaynor, Alison & Julie) are holding a Charity Night on Saturday 4th March at St Josephs (The Joeys) North Rd in Birkenhead to raise money for Clatterbridge Cancer Research and Clatterbridge MacMillan Nurses.
We’ve chosen these Charities to thank them for everything they did for Geoff during the short 9 months following his diagnosis – chemo was given in Clatterbridge Hospital, and the MacMillan Nurses made sure he didn’t suffer any unnecessary pain as the end was drawing near. We don’t know how the Nurses and Staff do what they do every day in such heart breaking situations, but they do and we want them to know that they are well and truly appreciated!
Some of you will be joining us on the Saturday at St Josephs for the Race Night, Karaoke, Raffle and more, but we know many of you won’t be able to so we’ve set up these Just Giving pages so that you can still show your support for such worthy charities with a donation in Geoffs memory.
When you make a donation, it would be really lovely if you could add a note about Geoff in the comments – how you knew him, a funny story (and we know there’s loads of them!), something he used to do that made you laugh; any memory you’d like to share with us all would be wonderful for us read. If you’d rather not share, that’s ok too. Your taking the time to read our story and make a donation in Geoffs memory is truly appreciated.
The incredible John Hammond (is he a man or a machine?!?) is kicking things off for us with 4 marathons in 4 days on February 2nd, 3rd, 4th
and 5th ! When John was a bit younger and playing football, Geoff used to say “he’s a lovely lad, but a bloody nutter!” High praise indeed John,
and thank you for the 104.875 miles you’re running in his memory.
We’re all very grateful for whatever you’re able to donate – every £1 helps, and remember that if you’re a UK Taxpayer, you can also check the gift aid box so that an additional 12.5% will be received by the Charity at no extra cost to you!
