Story

The Rifles Support Team is a small team based in Yorkshire whose primary role is on street recruiting and also running "look at life" courses for potential recruits, but we spend a lot of time engaging with the members of the British public. The Army at this present time is held in high regard in the public's eye and we would like to take the opportunity with the help of the public to raise as much money as possible for our injured heroes and our suffering families due to recent conflicts.

As a team we have chosen an event which will be mentally and physically challenging but achievable, we are going to run from Carlisle to Gateshead along the famous route of Hadrian's wall, firstly by running 36 miles in the first day and 33 miles the second day The event is in June so between now and then we have the potential to make a great difference by raising as much money as possible. We have been training every day for the last 3 months and will continue all the way up until the event.

We will be collecting in our recruiting area and also be visiting the grounds of local football clubs, each team member will have a sponsor form too.

This page will be regularly updated and photos and pictures will be added, and also small snippets of our team's progress.

The Regimental Charity

Since our formation in 2007, The Rifles have seen almost continuous action in Iraq & Afghanistan. This commitment has come at a cost. 59 Riflemen Killed in Action and over 300 with serious injuries including 29 who have lost limbs. Most have been caused by IEDs which cause complex multiple trauma. Some injuries are not yet obvious; evidence shows that psychological problems will manifest themselves sometimes years after the end of service. All of our battalions will continue to deploy to Afghanistan and the need for our help will continue for many years to come.

Riflemen have volunteered to risk their lives and limbs on behalf of others; we need to do all we can to support them and show our appreciation for their courage and sacrifice.

Care for Casualties is an appeal that gives the severely wounded, their families and the families of our fallen Riflemen the support, the inspiration and the means to rebuild their lives and make the best of their futures.

In the words of one supporter, "It’s not just the soldiers who serve, it’s their families too and we owe it to them to look after them all."
