Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In late August Billy Thomas was taken ill with a rare infection called Endocarditis Staphylococcus Aures. The danger of this infection is increased if the patient has problems with the valves in their heart, which Billy did. It is an aggressive infection that is carried through the blood stream to the Heart where the bacteria gets stuck and starts to attack the valves. This is such a dangerous infection that it has a 60% mortality rate!
Billy contracted this from an abscess that he had on his tooth that was no longer giving him any pain but lay silently under his tooth. He had a high temperature and became unwell and was taken by his parents to hospital who sent him to the Royal Brompton in London. Billy had to endure a 12 hour operation to rebuild his heart and remove as much of the infection as possible. At one point the odds had gone from 80/20 to 50/50, that the surgeon would be able to save his life. Billy will have to stay in hospital for many months until the infection has completely gone. But thanks to the surgeon, the research at the Royal Brompton and all the Nurses and staff he is becoming strong everyday.
It is because of the amazing work that The Royal Brompton do that we have started this page to raise money for monitors that are urgently needed on the Rose Ward, who have looked after Billy through his ordeal.
Please help us to help the Royal Brompton we will never be able to thank them enough for all their hard work but maybe by raising money it would be a start.
