Story
I recently successfully completed my first ever charity event 'Rig Run' which involved me running a full marathon after a 12 hour shift, on-board my oil rig in aid of War Child https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10202186815335744 as a consequence I managed to raise over £3000 for a very worthy cause.
I decided after completing the Rig Run event to take some well deserved time of from training to relax over Christmas with family and friends......which I was doing very well up until I read this article = http://england.shelter.org.uk/news/october_2014/80,000_children_facing_homelessness_this_christmas
The thought of 80,000 children waking up on Christmas day and being homeless just broke my heart as well as enraged me giving the 'fact' that it is totally unnecessary as well as morally wrong considering that in the UK we have all the resources to provide every single living a soul a home of their own........we just do not have the heart to allow it.
SO this Christmas instead of stuffing my face with mince pies whilst watching crap TV I will be running my first ever Road marathon back and fourth across the Tay Bridge in aid of 'Shelter' but more importantly in aid of the 80,000 children who unlike myself will be waking up on Christmas day with nothing.
And I will be running the marathon on the 25th of December....yes that's right on Christmas day! Christmas is a time of giving and that is what I am going to do, give my time and effort in trying to help those that need help the most.
I am obviously doing this to raise as much money as possible BUT I am also doing this unique event to try and inspire other people to join me OR to get out there and do something similar themselves for whatever causes they feel strongly about.
If anybody wants to run with me then give contact me via my Rig Run page - https://www.facebook.com/pages/RIG-RUN/182821305200698
I am also looking for volunteers who may be able to assist with the event and possibly help in expanding it.....I want to either get hold of a premises with in which we can put a Christmas day dinner spread on for those that cannot afford or have the means to have their own. Or to have a drop of point where people can donate money + gifts that can be distributed to local children + families that are living in sheltered accommodation in Dundee, by volunteers on Christmas day.
I basically want people who give a damn and more importantly CARE about fellow human beings to get in touch to help me make this into something special and possibly a yearly event.
Regardless of whatever response I get, if any.....I will be running regardless on the Christmas day, what ever the weather!
