Story

THE PR CUP RETURNS WITH SERIES OF ONLINE TOURNAMENTS

Chess, FIFA and Words with Friends competitions will raise money for NABS, the wellbeing support charity, in an initiative organised by PR Week and Ready10

The PR Cup, originally a five-a-side cross-agency football tournament, is returning in 2021 with its latest iteration, The Winter Series, and a trio of online tournaments pitting players across the industry against each other.

The opening gambit will be an online chess tournament starting later on week of the 1st March, followed by virtual FIFA and Words with Friends competitions. The Winter Series has been organised to help more PR people from across the industry come together whilst movements are restricted due to the pandemic and help raise money for NABS – the charity that helps provide wellbeing support for those working in the media industries. 100% of entry fees will go to NABS.

All the tournaments will take place over a number of weeks rather than on one particular day to allow as many people to enter as possible and to play at convenient times. The individual entry fee is £15, or for £150 agencies can book 15 spots across the three tournaments to distribute amongst their staff.

The chess tournament will be played in association with World Chess, with a group stage followed by a straight knockout. The FIFA competition will see separate XBOX and PlayStation versions and will be played on FIFA21, also with a round-robin group stage followed by knockout stages (users should stipulate their console when signing up). Finally, Words with Friends will be played via the app, with matchups to be confirmed by the PR Cup team and results reported when games are completed.

To sign up, entry is simple. Individual players should email either chess@theprcup.com, FIFA@theprcup.com or words@theprcup.com depending on which tournament they wish to enter. All emails should contain the subject title SIGN ME UP, and FIFA players should stipulate their console type. Organisers will then contact all participants with tournament rules and sign-up details. There is no limit on the number of tournaments one person can enter.

Agencies who wish to book 15 spots for their staff should email tickets@theprcup.com.

As well as finding the industry’s chess master, gamer and wordsmith, the event will also help raise funds and awareness for NABS and support them in providing wellbeing services to everybody working in the media industries. Their services include coaching, an advice line, therapy referral and financial grants and is open to everyone working in the PR industry. More can be found out about their services at www.nabs.org.uk.

The tournament has been jointly organised by PR Week and Ready10, who are also covering event and staging costs, ensuring all entry fees go to NABS.
