Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. In May 2015, two weeks after taking retirement I was diagnosed as having a brain tumour which was treated with surgery on 13th July 2015. I was fortunate, my tumour was benign and an excellent surgeon in Southampton Hospital removed it successfully. It has taken six months to get over the surgery which my GP advised it would, telling me that one day I would just realise I felt ok again. He was right, over Christmas I did decide I was there; fatter and feeling very unfit but determined to restart my retirement.
I joined Slimming World in January and my lovely husband brought home a Slimming World magazine to encourage me and in it was a cycle challenge Vietnam to Cambodia in aid of Women V Cancer.
Several close family members and friends have been less fortunate than me and have endured lengthy treatment for various cancers including breast, cervical and ovarian cancers so I decided to use 2016 regaining my strength, improving my fitness and trying to help raise funds to fight these diseases by joining the challenge. I have always enjoyed cycling - though I have done little in the past ten years, and have long been fascinated by Cambodia and Vietnam so I decided this was meant to be.
This is challenge not a holiday. In fact for me it is three challenges: I have to regain my strength, lose a significant amount of weight and get fit enough to do the challenge involving a serious and hopefully effective training regime, I have to raise £3200 by September and I have to complete the challenge itself which will be 450 kms over six days in November. I really hope you will consider helping me and will donate to the work of the Women V Cancer Charities. The cost of the trip is included in the £3200 target but I will be funding that so all of your donation will go to the charities. If you know anyone who you feel might want to support the work of these charities please encourage them to support me and feel free to share my page.
