Janet was taken from me at the age of only 51 years.     What is giving me strength to try and get over this terrible ordeal is this opportunity to try and help others who may be touched by cancer.

The 20th of July was the most important date in the year for Janet and I because this was the date we met back in 1985. I always felt that the beautiful person I met that night was priceless, I'd won the jackpot and we were a perfect match.

What followed was perfect harmony! Not only did we become husband and wife but we were also best friends and we did everything together. We became each other's shadow,we were as one. It was because of our devotion and happiness for each other, that we decided to call this day our "real anniversary" which we always celebrated.

When Janet was diagnosed in May 2015, my life was turned upside turned upside down. Since this time I have gone through a range of emotions and pain, that have at times been unbearable. I would not wish this suffering on anyone because it's a pain that sometimes feels like it would never go away.

As I move on with my life, I regularly reflect on the wonderful memories that Janet and I created over the past 30 years. To think we never had an argument in this time says it all, and our secret to a happy marriage was that we were always honest and trusted each other.

As Janet and I had a love for travelling, it did not take me long for me to think of a challenge that would make her immensely proud of me. I therefore intend to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of my beloved wife Janet. I will then also go on a wildlife safari, so that I can see the lion and the zebra whose story has given me the strength, focus and determination as I start to rebuild my life. Before returning home I will have a well earned rest on the beach in Zanzibar.
