Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Earlier this year one of my grandson's friends and fellow football team member suffered from a little known condition called Transverse Myelitis. TM in brief is a inflamation of the spinal cord, it affects the Myolin in the muscles which is used to help the muscles contract.
TM affects people in varying ways, most commonly bringing about semi paralysis in the lower body. It is more common in people aged 19-26 and has a 50/50 chance of a full recovery.
When contemplating what to do as my imminent redundancy approached I thought about rekindling my aim to run a marathon on every continent and it was his attitude and approach when faced with the possible outcome of his illness that helped inspire and motivate me to enter another marathon after a break of three years.
My grandsons team mate is now back playing football only 3 months or so after being hit by TM so has overcome his challenge .
Now back in UK having completed the marathon in quite demanding conditions which were softer underfoot than previous years, it was an awesome experience and will stay with me forever.
Looking forward to more challenges in 2010 and still hoping to increase this total before my page closes in March.
