Story
Come Saturday I will be shaving my luscious locks and dyeing my hair Lilac in the hope to raise awareness and maybe a few coins for those suffering from Lupus.
As some of you beautiful people that have taken the time to view the page may know, my mum Claire has been battling severe Lupus for the past 20 years- often at times seeming like Lupus could win.
Lupus is a life changing autoimmune disease which can have symptoms ranging from a skin rash to complete organ failure, often with many other associated complications. As a result, she has gone from the most active person you'd know- involved in everything from caving to horse riding; to being heavily wheel-chair bound, often not leaving bed.
Incredibly my mum has fought off sepsis (blood poisoning) resulting from kidney failure over an astonishing 12 separate occasions, including instances of septic shock where she has been very close to losing her life- leaving many doctors at a loss as to how she does it.
She is a complete inspiration to all those around her, always with the brightest smile in the room (even in the dull hospital rooms). However, like for so many of us 2020 has been one of the toughest years to date; as with next-to-no immune system she has barely been able to leave the house (aside from the exciting constant hospital appointments of course).
Finishing 2020 off mum had three separate admissions in hospital through December alone- including Christmas Day. Therefore, I thought we'd try kick off 2021 by embarrassing myself for a good cause.
Thank you so much to anyone that read!
Hopefully (after a slow start) everyone's 2021 is one to celebrate.
