Please join us in raising money in aid of The University of Nottingham Student's Union specifically to raise money for the work of TEDDY BEAR HOSPITAL.

Teddy Bear Hospital is a scheme run by volunteer medical students from the University of Nottingham. We are a free community health education project for 3-7 year olds and we visit schools, nurseries and Girl guiding groups across Nottinghamshire. We aim to reduce childhood anxiety about hospitals and doctors and promote child health. Children are often anxious about ‘visiting the doctor’. These fears present major barriers to doctors treating children. Teddy Bear Hospital provides a positive, friendly experience, enabling children to become more relaxed in a healthcare setting.

We achieve this through role-play and health workshops provided in the familiar environment of the child's own school, nursery or Rainbow group. Children have a consultation with a Teddy Doctor about their “sick” Teddy and attend a variety of workshops on health related topics.

We offer 8 different workshops to choose from and are made up of a body of over 80 student volunteers, many of whom are aspiring paediatricians. We have an extensive waiting list for schools, nurseries and Rainbow groups that want to book in sessions, but unfortunately we are restricted financially in terms of the number of sessions we can do a term. We are keen to expand what we currently offer and increase our weekly visits to schools, to enable us to reach more children. In order to do this, we will need to double the equipment that we currently have and we will also need to fund the extra transport costs to the schools. We offer our sessions completely free of charge to schools and rely completely on donations/ fundraising efforts in order to enable us to deliver our sessions. Each session costs us an average of £30 and thus to double the number of sessions we can do next year, we will need an extra £600.
