Story
In 2012 Team Jax entered the Baxters Riverness 5K Funrun & 10K for the 1st time, with the aim of raising vital funds for people living with Type 1 Diabetes.
2013 sees us entering this event for the 2nd time, raising funds for JDRF & hoping to smash our previous total!!!
Team Jax was borne out of the love for 1 very special little boy, my son Jaxon. On 13 January 2010, Jaxon was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just 22 months old. The last 3.5 years have been one massive rollercoaster ride full of highs & lows - quite literally!!! From the moment Jaxon was diagnosed, the carefree days of family life which were taken for granted were gone, ahead a long & continuous journey of blood glucose testing, Hb1ac levels, multiple daily injections of insulin, ketone testing, carb counting, hypos & sleepless nights.
Living with a child with Type 1 Diabetes has had a huge impact on our lives, but through knowledge & awareness, care & support we have learnt to deal with Type 1 Diabetes & the never ending pressures it brings to give Jaxon the best chance in life. Currently Jaxon has to test his blood glucose 5 times every day & have 4 insulin injections every day. However this changes when Jaxon becomes ill, blood glucose testing increases, ketone testing begins, correction doses of insulin are required along with nightime checks...... hello 3am!!!! Even just a simple invite to a friends birthday party can raise issues for Jaxon with all the party food & games. Jaxon will be starting Primary 1 in August & with this brings many more hurdles for us to face. Luckily for us Jaxon has adapted so well to all the changes in his life & we are so very proud of him. By supporting this worthwhile cause into vital research into juvenile diabetes hopefully together we can help in the search for a cure for my lovely little boy & all the other children living with Type 1 Diabetes.
