Story

Jackie Morel –

2021 will be the year my life changed forever. Rick was taken from us by Bowel Cancer on 2nd July at just 64 years old. He had so much still to live for and was the strongest, most selfless loving man I have ever met. His family meant the absolute world to him, and he was so angry this vile disease consumed him. He fought a courageous battle over 7 years and continued to live life to its best never wanting Cancer to beat him.

He leaves a huge void in mine and all our children's lives, he instilled in us all the importance of a 'Positive Mental Attitude', to always remain true to yourself, to love each other unconditionally, and to strive for success.

With all this in mind, and a few drinks in (probably Vina Sol), a team of us agreed to be the next London Marathon runners for Team Rick. Bowel Cancer UK acknowledged the money Team Rick has already raised over the past years by Sam Morel, George Bridgman, Eddie Parkin, Will Parkin, and Charlotte Simpson...and offered us our shirts this year, so it's our turn to take the baton!!!

We will be putting in the training effort and making you all proud in memory of my beloved Rick and those near and far who have suffered Bowel Cancer.

If you can spare any donation to support this cause it will not only make a huge difference to so many lives it will help push us during those tough training sessions and most importantly get us around London on the 2nd October 2022. Thank you x

Tilly Morel -

2nd July 2021 was a life-changing day it was the day that dad lost his battle to Bowel Cancer at 64 years old. That day will forever be the worst day for me and my family as that’s the day we lost our dad. Dad was one of my best friends.

He once said watching one of the boys run the marathon that I will do it one day and he will be there to watch me. So, I had no other choice than to make him proud and run it this year.

So this year I will be running the marathon alongside others running for Team Rick. We have previously run the London Marathon for Bowel Cancer Uk with Team Rick and they have seen the amount of money that we have raised so have given us shirts for this year to run.

If you can donate anything to support this cause it will be greatly appreciated.

Nancy Morel -

Me and dad always had a joke that we were the chubby ones in the family while watching other family members previously train and run the marathon while we tried to run to different London locations to cheer them on (mainly to hurry them up so we could go to a pub). But after last year's tragedy of losing my dad, I've decided to take on the challenge myself. My dad was the bravest, most positive man and I know how proud he'd be after watching me run the marathon from heaven. Please donate if you can to a great cause!!

Ollie Bridgman -

I have decided to run the London Marathon in 2022 to help raise money for such an amazing charity that's close to my heart. Mine and my family's lives changed in 2021 when we lost such an amazing dad, husband, and friend to a horrible disease. Rick had such a huge impact on my life, and he always joked about it being my turn to run the London Marathon just like he repeatedly mentioned many many moons ago. So I'm going way out of my comfort zone putting on some comfy trainers to run 26.2 miles and I'm hoping he's smiling at me the whole time.

If you would all be so kind as to reach into your pockets and help us raise money for Team Rick and Bowel cancer to find a cure for this disease that's affecting people every day, we would all be very grateful.

Charlotte Day -

This year I am running the London Marathon for many close family and friends that have been affected by this horrific disease. One inspiration who I am running for is a man who I looked up to as a second father figure, Rick Morel. He never failed to put a smile on my face and always treated me as one of his own. Sadly he lost his battle but will always be remembered as the miracle who never gave up.

I also have a very close family friend, Giles Hanson, who is currently fighting against Bowel Cancer that I am running for who is such a strong man and is putting up his best fight to beat it.

I am delighted to get a spot within Team Rick to raise as much money possible for Bowel cancer UK. Running is definitely not my strong suit, but I am going to work my hardest to take on this challenge and be the best I can be to complete this marathon.

It would mean the absolute world to me if you could please donate to this amazing cause so that one day a cure can be found!!

Adele Day -

I am running the London Marathon for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of Rick Morel who sadly is no longer with us, and my dear friend Giles Hanson who is trying to beat it every day. I also have had other friends who have suffered and beaten the disease, but have named them in case they de-friend me, by me causing them embarrassment...which is nothing new!! I know many of you are skeptical that I am running this marathon (how very dare you!) but I am genuinely really excited to be part of Team Rick and raise a significant amount of money for Bowel Cancer UK. Equally, I know how much he will be laughing at me and taking the mikey that I am actually running the marathon for him, which spurs me on even more!

Rick and his family mean the absolute world to me, and he had left a huge hole in our hearts, so raising money for Bowel Cancer UK, gives me the hope that eventually there will be a cure and ensure that no other families have to go through what his family and friends have had to endure.

So please dig deep and donate to this worthy cause and let's fight it together!

Charlie Stanbridge -

Having run the marathon before in memory of my dad, it needed to be for a special reason to run again, and this is. Rick was an amazing, kind, funny, and brave man as is his wife, Jackie. To run alongside her and some of their children in memory of Rick whilst raising money for Bowel Cancer Uk will be an honour.

Mike Burley -

I've never run a marathon or a proper half marathon. In truth I've never run a 10k or a 5k.

My prep so far for the London Marathon has been beginning to lose weight (3 stone at least required) and buying some trainers!!

So what am I doing it for?...

Team Rick...a group of family and friends of an inspirational man called Rick Morel taken way too soon by Cancer.

Team Rick have raised money for Bowel Cancer UK for several years and this year I am privileged to join them.

So please support a great cause and sponsor a hungry, non-runner, whos going to do his best to complete the London Marathon in honour of a great man, missed so much by so many, in the hope that the money we raise will help to prevent other families and friends losing loved ones to this terrible disease.

#runfatboyrun

Charlotte Simpson -

In 2022 I will be running the Virgin London Marathon for the second time as part of TEAM RICK!!!

Over the past couple of years, Team Rick has been raising funds and awareness for Bowel Cancer UK. I am going to lace up my running shoes again and help raise funds for this great cause, in support of Jackie Morel who is someone close to our family, and her amazing husband Rick, who sadly passed away last year.

Every year 42,000 others are diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in the UK and more than 16,000 loved ones die from this disease. I will be running the marathon in ten months time to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK supporting the amazing work they do.
