Story

November 2024 - Team Lewis has grown over the past 11 years with amazing people coming together to raise funds for Alder Hey children’s hospital.

We are always up for a challenge and more importantly have lots of fun along the way.

Our son Lewis was born in 2013 with Apert syndrome, this affects 1 in 65,000 children and is caused by a mutant gene during pregnancy.

This causes the under development of the skull bones, narrowing of airways and fused fingers and toes.

Lewis to date (Nov 2024) has had 20 surgeries to date including major skull reconstruction surgeries, with surgery number 21 tomorrow).

Lewis was recognised this year for his bravery and fundraising with a WellChild Award "ITV This Morning Special Recognition"

Alder Hey is known as “The land of remarkable people” but what makes this hospital truly remarkable is the dedication, support and care that each and every member of staff provides 24 hours a day to all of their patients and families.

We wouldn’t have got through this without them and still have many more years to come.

Throughout Lewis's life we have strived to educate people about both the condition Lewis has and also the hospital in such an upbeat and positive way. We have a saying that 'We wouldn't change Lewis for the World, but we would change the World for Lewis'. Some of our friends have adapted a popular phrase 'Where there's a will, there's a Lewis'.

Lewis also has a sibling, Hayden (now 17), who has been at the heart of the fundraising challenges. Hayden has been fortunate to be awarded the Yorkshire Children of Courage Young Fundraiser of the Year 2017 and a prestigious Princess Diana Award in 2017 also.
