Story
My family and I are walking (I say that lightly with a 3 year old on board - most of her walk will be on daddy's shoulders!) the Wee Wander at this year's Edinburgh Kiltwalk on the 17th September. We are doing this to help raise invaluable funds for the charity, Dads Rock.
Around 89% of men in the UK will experience fatherhood, and children have better outcomes in life when all parents are actively involved in their upbringing. Dads Rock strive to make Dads feel equal when it comes to raising children, through learning opportunities, advice and tailored support. Their activities focus on the physical and emotional health of families, enabling children to grow up feeling supported by their Dads, and for families to feel less isolated.
Personally, I attended their Dads-to-be antenatal classes before my first child was born in 2018, and found it a safe and welcoming space to learn and ask questions that I may not have felt comfortable asking in the traditional, mixed class environment. We've also been on several of their awesome trips, including to a fire station where the kids got to shoot water from an engine’s hose – I was a bit jealous.
If you can spare anything for this amazing charity, please do. Every penny goes towards their long term survival.
