Story
Mark Harvey and Mathias Wynne will be attempting to purchase a vehicle for no more than £500 and then drive it to Monaco within 36 hours. We’re departing Cabot Square, London on the morning of Friday 16th September, and will arrive in Monaco the evening of Saturday 17th September. Hopefully the same year.
Not only that, as if trying to keep the vehicle functional for a trip of 950 miles wasn’t enough, the organisers have promised a set of fiendishly difficult challenges along the way. We’re hoping these challenges aren’t up to Top Gear levels – e.g. “And now.. turn your car into a boat!”. Because, for a start, Mark doesn’t know how to sail, and Mathias can’t swim.
The aim of the event is to raise funds for The Children's Trust, which is an extremely worthy charity which cares for children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs.
The team is named after the Steven King vehicle that was able to repair itself – we’re hoping that the Honda Prelude which we have enlisted for the event turns out to be one of those, because neither of us can reliably identify a spanner 2 times out of 3. But for 500 quid we’ll be lucky if the Honda's filler cap works.
What will happen?
Will they ever be seen again?
Will the Honda stay in one piece until even the start ?
Place bets now…
· How far before they break down
· Time to first tantrum
· First person to throw toys out of plan and fly home early
· Distance travelled before running self over with own car (Brian Harvey Namesake Award)
All expenses involved in the trip (vehicle, food, petrol, medical expenses, anti-depressants, therapy for PTSD*) will be borne by Mark and Mathias – 100% of the money you donate goes to the charity.
Team Christine – you know it makes sense. The same way a jet-engined skateboard makes sense.
