Story

Just before Christmas 2016, Antonia was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer and has now embarked on her journey to recovery. Prior to diagnosis, Antonia had signed up to run the Anglesey Half Marathon. Having run marathons and half-marathons in the past, the Anglesey Half was to be particularly important. The run is held in the area in which Antonia grew up and, although she has since moved back to Gwynedd, no matter how far away she has been throughout life, North Wales has always been held close to her heart. The run also represented an opportunity to raise funds for local charities in Gwynedd where medical care is severely underfunded.

Since cancer has put paid to Antonia's run this year, her amazing friends and family have taken up the baton and will be running for and on her behalf. Antonia has said that she also considers Team Ant's run to be a course recce so that she is fully prepared for her entry in the 2018 Anglesey Half!

Team Ant is raising funds for Gwynedd Breast Cancer via Awyr Las.

Gwynedd Breast Cancer helps fund new equipment and additional patient comforts. Its most recent purchase, made possible through charitable donations, has been an ENCOR Vacuum Breast biopsy device. This is helping to speed up the process for accurately diagnosing breast cancer, while reducing discomfort and anxiety for patients and the need for them to undergo surgical procedures in theatre.

Note from Antonia: I truly hope that the money raised by Team Ant will help lead to an increase in early and accurate diagnoses of this terrible disease. I have found that positivity is a huge part of managing the treatment. Equipment and resources that reduce anxiety and increase comfort will surely promote that much needed positivity and keep the focus on the very real light at the end of the tunnel. I'll be cheering Team Ant over the finish line this year; I'll be beating them to it next year!

My friends and family are amazing - thank you all for doing this, A x
