Story

A BIG THANK YOU for visiting our page and making a Donation - big or small it doesn't matter as EVERY LITTLE HELPS!

Why we are taking on this challenge...

Our family experienced the remarkable service of St Lukes Hospice first-hand when our beloved grandmother passed away in March 2009.

She had been fighting Rheumatoid Arthritis since she was 30, which left her severely disabled, and despite being challenged by numerous other difficulties, she fought everyday with a big smile on her face. Towards the end of her courageous battle, St Lukes stepped in, and with the help of all the loving staff - they ensured her passing was as graceful as her life.

Despite her pains, she said she felt the most peaceful at St Lukes Hospice, than she had felt in a long time. At this difficult time in our lives, we were met with unparalleled compassion by St Lukes. Not only did they give us peace of mind that she was in capable and kind hands, but they also let us stay close to her, and to enjoy some special moments that will be memories forever.

Our Grandmother, Nirmala Kataria, was a gracious, kind-hearted, beautiful and humble lady. Anyone that ever met her could never forget her fighting spirit, her selfless nature, or her caring touch. She taught us to live life to the fullest, always looking on the positive side, and never give up. To honour her strength and determination, as well as help St Lukes, we have decided to take on the Everest Base Camp Challenge to raise a target of £36,000.

About St Luke's Hospice...

St Luke's Hospice is an independent charity specialising in providing care for terminally ill patients. The volunteers, including Doctors and Nurses, work hard to provide a physical, emotional, social and spiritual sanctuary at a difficult time in someone's life, as well as support their families/carers. St Luke's Hospice has selflessly served the community for the last 10years, funded by voluntary donations.

We are extremely excited about the challenge, and really hope to be able to make a difference to St Luke Hospice, so they can continue to enhance the lives of others, in the same way they did for us.
