Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit and read my page.

In my lifetime I have been all around the world. I have seen good, I have seen bad. I have seen courage and I have seen fear.

The bravest most inspirational person I have ever met is my gorgeous son Jacob Nicholas Wright.

I am lucky to have two amazing sons, one son, Jacob has touched the hearts of so many.

He was born on the 6/12/10. It was a magical moment I will never forget. He was a perfect little bundle of happieness. I felt honoured to be his dad.

As he grew it became apparent all was not well with my little warrior. Hearing and sight issues escalated into feeding problems and then into complex epilepsy and severe physical and mental developmental delay. He battled through tests, operations, drugs,  being poked and prodded by doctors. All the while still remaining calm and strong, more so sometimes than us. He was so good and so loving.

In Febuary 2012 we were told he had the Mitochondrial Disease, Leigh's. That it was incurable and he would be unlikely to reach his 3rd Birthday.

In March 2012 he stopped breathing and had to be kept alive in intensive care.

On April 20th 2012, 501 days after I first saw his perfect face he died peacefuly in our arms. The mitochondrial disease effected his brain cells. They did not have enough energy to function and had died to such an extent he couldn't breathe.

I then knew what true sadness was.

But he taught me so much. He made me a better person. I am honoured still to be his a Daddy.

I'm running the marathon in his memory for The Lily Foundation to raise money to do three things:

1) Support families in the same position as us

2) To raise awareness of this relatively common but unheard of  group of diseases

3) To find a cure, so parents don't have to sit in a room like we did and be told "your child is going to die"

So in memory of my warrior please donate some money so we can make a difference in his name.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart
